Recipe for Pecan Pie Brownies

Pecan pie and brownies are two of the most classic, comforting, and delicious holiday desserts. The combination of chocolate fudge brownie and gooey pecan pie is a dream come true for a chocolate lover like me.

These pecan pie brownie bars are so great for snacking on during the holidays. This particular pecan pie bars recipe is perfect for larger crowds as well, you will get around 20 servings from a normal batch, and you can make it ahead of time too.

The gooey, nutty filling of a pecan pie is baked directly on top of rich chocolate brownies, which isa welcometwist on Classic Pecan Pie dessert. I love that this recipe uses a brownie box mix as well because it saves me time and energy, but you can make homemade brownies for the brownie base too.

I love spicing up my dessert table with these decadent chocolate and pecan treats, and if you’d like some more easy fall desserts I’d recommend this Cinnamon Roll Apple Bake and a Spiced Apple Dump Cake too!

Suggestions and Alternatives

  • Use parchment paper on the bottom of the baking dish for less clean-up.
  • Serve warm with a side of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for even more decadence.
  • Add chopped almonds, pistachios, macadamia nuts, pecans or peanuts to the mix or on top for extra crunch!
  • Add milk chocolate or white chocolate chips to the brownie mix.
  • Only slice the pecan brownie into squares once it has cooled completely to ensure clean cut lines.
  • Instead of brownie mix try a boxed cake mix for alternative flavors.
  • For the boxed brownies you can substitute vegetable oil with melted butter at a 1:1 ratio. Similarly, you can use milk or heavy cream instead of water at a 1:1 ratio for the brownies for an even richer flavor.
  • You may use maple syrup or honey in place of light corn syrup if you don’t have any to hand.
  • Replace 1 cup of white sugar with 3/4 cup maple syrup, 3/4 cup honey, 2/3 cup agave, or 1 tsp stevia.

How Can I Make My Brownies More Fudgy Than Cakey?

Cakey brownies have a lower fat-to-flour ratio than fudgy brownies. So, to make them fudgier, add extra fat like butter and chocolate. A cakey batch of brownies has extra flour and is leavened with baking powder. The amount of sugar and eggs is the same whether you want them to be fudgy or cakey, so don’t change these quantities.

Can You Add Nuts To Brownie Mix?

Yes – add walnuts, peanuts, macadamia nuts, hazelnuts, or any other nut you have on hand to give these pecan brownies more substance. To add crunch, mix the chopped, roasted nuts into the batter before baking them.

How Do I Store Them?

Store your gooey pecan pie brownies in an airtight container or covered in plastic wrap on the counter at room temperature for 3-4 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
